We are almost a month into school and I thought it would be best to update you with how things are going. As was mentioned in our previous post-Brittany and I are taking graduate classes. I can't believe we are already in week 4 of our graduate classes. It goes by fast! There have been some ups and downs with trying to get back into the swing of things and prioritizing our time. But I think we are starting to get the hang of managing time and also finding time for fun. Our school is in person at the moment with many procedures in place in order to mitigate infection at the school. We make sure to use hand sanitizer as much as we can.

See if you can find Brittany and I. (Where's Waldo?)

Recent Rainbow just over our school last week. It was so beautiful!

PE

Right now I am teaching my students the bible verse John 3:16

  • "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son."

I am repeating it as much as possible so the students can start memorizing it. I believe that being consistent with one verse for a unit helps the students learn better. If I were to bounce around to multiple verses each time they come to class it would confuse them.

Lessons

  • For Prk-2nd grade we are focusing on Locomotor and Nonlocomotor movements. My objective is to teach them the different ways we can move which include walking, jogging, running, galloping, sliding, skipping, hopping, leaping just to name a few.

  • For 3rd-5th we are focusing on our fitness goals and are doing the Fitnessgram assessments which are the PACER, Pushup's, Curl-ups, and Sit and Reach.

Good news is on the horizon too! We have heard rumors that the state of emergency might go away soon which means that sports teams/clubs will be able to start. Even though we are still getting cases on island, more and more people are getting vaccinated. Which hopefully will allow our family and friends to come and visit us sometime soon.

We love you all and appreciate your support in our ministry towards the students at our school. These students are such a blessing in our lives as we are for them!

If you feel called to donate to our ministry in helping us buy supplies and new PE equipment for our students you can do so by going to this page below and typing in our names. "Thomas and Brittany Mahaffie"

You don't have to donate money to support us! You can also type in your prayers or a word of encouragement that will help use get through teaching and our studies!

Thank you all and we will continue to keep you updated!
