Recap

Well it has been quite a while since we posted our our site so let's dive into a bulleted recap of the end the school year.

End of the year (May-June, 2022)

  • Brittany and I got to go on the 4th/5th grade trip together (ministering to our separate cabins of students).

  • My grandfather (Jack Mahaffie) passed away in February.

  • Brittany and I both coached soccer in the spring.

  • Field day had a big chance of rain but it ended up being a great day, thank the Lord.

  • We attended high school graduation and said good-bye to some amazing seniors that we coached. Brittany was also a major part of the 8th grade promotion ceremony, sending off her 8th grade students.

  • It rained for a month and a half (almost every single day), from spring break till the end of school (record breaking in Okinawa!)

  • Brittany has decided not to work as a full time teacher this school year - she will still be coaching and volunteering at the school, substitute teaching, bus monitoring here and there, baby sitter, etc... It was a tough decision but she

Summer Break

  • Brittany and I traveled to Tokyo for a few days and explored some parks, a light museum, the Imperial palace (home of the Emperor), Tokyo station, famous streets, and went up the Tokyo Skytree. We had a blast taking the trains all around Tokyo.

  • Unfortunately, we were stuck in Montreal, Canada from delayed flights and enjoyed spending the night on the floor of the airport...

  • But we finally made it to Michigan! Where we had a sweet reunion with our families, on Father's Day (and our Anniversary)

  • We spent some wonderful time at the lake house in Mecosta (water skiing, swimming, corn hole, bottle bash, relaxing) -- we spent the 4th of July there with our families.

  • We also got to spend time at Brittany's parents place, in Kalamazoo (woodworking, riding motorcycles, playing cards)

  • Visited my best friend in Holland, MI - him and his wife recently had their second son (Owen Paul)

  • Visited Brittany's friend, Abby and her family, in the East Lansing area

  • Attended the wedding of Mac and Amy Engbers (Brittany's brother and new sister-in-law) - I was one of Mac's groomsmen.

  • Both of our family's dogs were getting old, thankfully we got to see both of them (Annie and Jack) before they were put down this summer.

  • Played pickle-ball with Brittany's aunt, mom, and brother.

  • I got to go on a fishing trip with my dad and brother in Sault Ste. Marie (in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan)

  • We also went on a family trip with both sets of parents to the UP, where we saw bears, lighthouses, waterfalls and Pictured Rocks

Back for More

  • Now we are back in Okinawa!

  • We had a week to settle back in and enjoy the Okinawan summer (visiting the beach, spending time with our friends, eating our favorite foods here)! Then we had a week of staff/teacher meetings & work days.

  • Our first day of school was Tuesday, August 23rd.

  • It has been a good first two weeks of school!

  • I am the head coach for Cross Country (XC) this year at our school. I'm looking forward to a great season!

We are excited for this new school year and all it has to offer. Brittany is excited for not having to grade this year and to begin to explore her interests in teaching. We are both praying that this year will be very fruitful in our 3rd year of marriage and I am excited to take on my 4th year of teaching at OCSI. Which is the longest I have stayed at a school. It's weird to have been at a school for 4 years, especially seeing students that were once freshmen now stepping into their senior year.

We appreciate you reading all the way to end! This is the start of a new season in our lives and we always appreciate and value your prayers and encouraging messages. We are looking forward to what God wants to teach us and guide us through in these upcoming days, weeks, and months.
